Apostille Services in Dubai & UAE — Apostilles for Hague Countries, Attestation for the UAE
Is an apostille accepted for documents used in the UAE?
No — the UAE is not a member of the Hague Apostille Convention, so an apostille is not accepted on its own for documents used in the UAE, and the UAE does not issue apostilles on its own documents. An apostille is a single-step authentication valid only between member countries; because the UAE has not acceded, documents for UAE use always require the full consular legalisation chain — authentication in the country of origin, legalisation by the UAE embassy or consulate there, and final attestation by MOFA. An apostille alone is the complete answer only when both the origin and destination country are Hague members and neither is the UAE — though in apostille-only countries it still serves as the origin-country step of a UAE-bound attestation chain. AttestPort handles the full UAE attestation chain and can advise on and arrange genuine apostille cases between member countries.
About Apostille Services
Apostille services in Dubai come with a truth most providers skip: the UAE is not a member of the Hague Apostille Convention, so an apostille on its own never makes a document valid for use in the UAE, and no UAE authority issues apostilles. What a Dubai-based expat or business actually needs is the right one of three routes — the full attestation chain for a foreign document used in the UAE, MOFA attestation plus destination-embassy legalisation for a UAE document used abroad, or a genuine origin-country apostille when a document moves between two Hague member countries and the UAE is not involved. AttestPort identifies the correct route for your document and destination, handles it end to end with doorstep pickup and delivery across Dubai, and never sells you a stamp the receiving authority will reject.
You searched for apostille in Dubai — here is the truth
Most people searching for apostille services in Dubai have been told, by a website or a well-meaning colleague, that an apostille will make their document valid here. It will not. The UAE is not a party to the Hague Apostille Convention — it does not appear on the Hague Conference's official status table — so an apostille is never accepted on its own for a document used in the UAE, and no UAE ministry or authority issues apostilles.
A persistent online myth claims the UAE joined the Convention in 2023 or 2024. It did not. Acting on that myth is expensive: a document that arrives in the UAE carrying only an apostille will be refused, and the missing embassy and MOFA steps must then be completed from scratch. This page explains what actually works — and where an apostille genuinely fits.
The three routes — which one is yours?
Every apostille question we receive resolves into one of three routes, determined by where the document was issued and where it will be used. First: a foreign document used IN the UAE follows the full attestation chain — origin-country authentication, UAE embassy legalisation, final MOFA attestation. Second: a UAE-issued document used ABROAD is MOFA-attested and then legalised by the destination country's embassy or consulate in the UAE. Third: a document moving between two Hague member countries, with the UAE not involved, uses a genuine apostille from the origin country's Competent Authority — the one case where the single-step certificate is the whole answer.
Tell us your document and destination and we will confirm the route in minutes — it is the first thing we check, and it decides everything that follows.
Route one: a foreign document for use in the UAE — why an apostille is never enough
Whatever the issuing country — Hague member or not — a document bound for the UAE must complete the full consular legalisation chain: authentication in the country of origin, then legalisation by the UAE embassy or consulate there, then the final MOFA stamp in the UAE. An apostille cannot shortcut any of it, because apostilles only operate between Convention members and the UAE is not one.
Where the issuing country is an apostille-only jurisdiction, the apostille is simply how the origin-country stage is completed before the document moves to UAE embassy legalisation and the final MOFA attestation. That is the apostille's real role in a UAE-bound file: the first link in the chain, never a substitute for it.
Route two: a UAE document for use abroad — the UAE does not issue apostilles
There is no such thing as a UAE apostille. Because the UAE has not acceded to the Convention, a UAE-issued document being sent abroad is never apostilled — even when the destination is a Hague member such as Germany, the UK or Australia. The correct route is consular: MOFA attests the UAE document first, and the destination country's embassy or consulate in the UAE then legalises it.
This route covers UAE birth and marriage certificates for immigration files, UAE degrees for study or work abroad, UAE police clearance certificates, UAE trade licences and corporate documents for overseas expansion, and UAE court and notarised documents. If a foreign authority asks you for an "apostilled" UAE document, what it will actually accept is this MOFA-plus-consular-legalisation package — we complete it end to end and can confirm the destination country's exact requirements before we start.
Route three: between two Hague countries — where an apostille genuinely applies
An apostille is the right answer when both the origin and the destination country are Hague members and the UAE is not involved — a UK degree used in Germany, a Philippine birth certificate used in Spain, a French document used in Australia. In those cases a single apostille certificate from the origin country's designated Competent Authority replaces consular legalisation entirely.
Many Dubai residents hold documents from, or need documents for, exactly these country pairs. AttestPort advises on and arranges origin-country apostilles through our corridor channels — the apostille is always issued by that country's Competent Authority, never by anyone in the UAE — and we are upfront that this route only exists when the UAE is not the destination.
How the apostille fits your country of origin — the corridor matrix
The origin-country stage of a UAE-bound file looks different depending on the corridor, and this is where most mistakes happen. In apostille-only countries, the apostille IS the origin-country step; in dual-track countries, the UAE-bound route uses a named authentication instead, and requesting an apostille there wastes time.
- United Kingdom — an apostille-only country: the FCDO apostille is the origin step for UAE-bound documents, followed by UAE embassy legalisation and MOFA
- United States — dual-track: UAE-bound documents use the authentication certificate route (federal or state depending on the document), not an apostille
- Canada — apostille-only with an exception: Ontario issues a certificate of authentication, not an apostille, for UAE-bound documents
- Australia — dual-track: DFAT issues both instruments, and for the UAE it is the authentication — Australia's own guidance says an apostille will not be recognised for UAE use
- India — a Hague member, but UAE-bound documents follow MEA attestation, the UAE Embassy, then MOFA
- Philippines — apostille-only: the DFA apostille serves as the origin step before UAE attestation
The Philippine apostille and the UAE — a special note for Filipino expats
One of the most-asked questions we see is whether a Philippine DFA apostille is accepted in the UAE. On its own, it is not — the UAE is outside the Convention, so the apostille cannot be the final word. But it is not wasted either: the Philippines is an apostille-only country, so the DFA apostille is precisely how the Philippine end of a UAE-bound file is completed, before the document continues to UAE embassy legalisation and final MOFA attestation.
Note also that embassies do not issue apostilles — a Philippine apostille comes from the DFA in the Philippines, not from the Philippine Embassy in the UAE. Our Philippines document attestation service runs the whole corridor, DFA apostille included, from your Dubai doorstep.
Which documents can be apostilled — and which route they take
In Hague member countries, most public documents can be apostilled: birth, marriage, death and divorce certificates, police clearances, degrees and transcripts, court documents, notarised documents and corporate certificates. Private documents are usually notarised first so a Competent Authority can act on them.
Whether your document should be apostilled at all depends on the route: for a Hague-to-Hague move, yes; for anything touching the UAE, the apostille is either the origin-country step of the attestation chain (apostille-only countries) or not used at all (dual-track countries and UAE-issued documents). We confirm the correct treatment per document before anything is stamped.
How long apostille and legalisation take
An apostille from an origin country's Competent Authority typically takes from a few days to a couple of weeks, depending on the country and the authority's workload. For UAE-bound documents, the overall timeline is the attestation chain's: the origin-country and UAE-embassy stages happen abroad and vary widely by corridor, while the final MOFA step is the most predictable — about one to three business days by approved courier.
For a UAE document going abroad, MOFA attestation is quick, and the destination embassy's legalisation time varies by mission. There is no honest single number that covers every corridor, so we give a realistic estimate for your specific document and destination — and say so plainly when a corridor is slow.
What apostille services cost
Apostille fees are set by each origin country's Competent Authority, and the UAE chain carries official fees at each of its stages — the origin authority, the UAE embassy or consulate, and MOFA. Because those charges are set by different governments and differ by document type and corridor, no single price covers every case honestly.
We confirm exactly which official fees apply to your route and give you a clear, itemised quote before we start. Message us for an instant quote for your document and destination.
Validity and verification — how long stamps last and how to check them
An apostille itself does not expire: it remains valid as long as the underlying document is valid, though some receiving authorities apply their own recency rules and time-sensitive documents such as police clearances carry their own validity periods. Apostilles can be verified with the Competent Authority that issued them, and many authorities operate online verification registers.
On the UAE side, a MOFA-attested document carries a QR code, barcode or reference number and can be verified through MOFA's official verification service at verify.mofa.gov.ae — so an employer, university or foreign authority can confirm the MOFA attestation online. If your document needs an MOJ-certified legal translation for the destination, we coordinate it alongside the stamps so nothing is rejected for a language issue.
Our doorstep service — what we actually do
AttestPort is a document-handling service, so the entire process runs without you visiting an office: we collect your originals anywhere in Dubai, confirm the correct route, complete the origin-country step through our corridor channels — including arranging a genuine apostille from the origin country's Competent Authority where that is the right instrument — run the UAE embassy and MOFA stages for UAE-bound files or the MOFA-plus-destination-embassy sequence for UAE documents going abroad, and deliver the finished file back to your door, with updates on WhatsApp.
Just as important is what we will not do: we will not sell you an apostille for a document that is going to be used in the UAE, because the receiving authority would reject it. The first thing you get from us is the correct route — then we run it.
Documents Required
- Original document (must not be laminated)
- Passport copy of the document holder
- The country where the document was issued and the country where it will be used (this determines the route)
- Purpose of the document (employment, education, family, legal, business)
- MOJ-certified legal translation if the destination requires a specific language
How Apostille Services Works
Route Check — Free Consultation
Tell us the document, where it was issued and where it will be used. We confirm which of the three routes applies — the UAE-bound attestation chain, the UAE-document outbound route, or a genuine Hague-to-Hague apostille — so no step is wasted.
Doorstep Document Collection
Our representative collects your original documents from your home or office anywhere in Dubai.
Origin-Country Step
The document is authenticated in its country of issue — an apostille from the designated Competent Authority where that is the origin instrument (for example the UK or the Philippines), or the named authentication certificate where it is not (for example the USA or Australia).
UAE Embassy or Consulate Legalisation
For a UAE-bound document, the UAE embassy or consulate in the country of issue legalises it — the step an apostille can never replace, because the UAE is not a Hague member.
MOFA Attestation — or the Outbound Equivalent
A UAE-bound document receives final MOFA attestation. A UAE-issued document going abroad is MOFA-attested first and then legalised by the destination country's embassy or consulate in the UAE — never apostilled, because the UAE does not issue apostilles.
Doorstep Delivery
Your finished documents are delivered back to your door, valid for the authority that will actually receive them.
Processing Time
An apostille from the origin country's Competent Authority typically takes from a few days to a couple of weeks, depending on the authority. For anything touching the UAE the timeline is the attestation chain's: the final MOFA step takes about one to three business days by approved courier, while the origin-country and embassy stages vary by corridor — ask us for an estimate for your document and destination.

Apostille Services — Frequently Asked Questions
No. The UAE is not a member of the Hague Apostille Convention, so an apostille is never accepted on its own for a document used in the UAE, and no UAE authority issues apostilles. A foreign document for UAE use completes the full attestation chain — origin-country authentication, UAE embassy or consulate legalisation, then final MOFA attestation. An apostille is only the right route between two Hague member countries when the UAE is not involved.
