Power of Attorney Attestation in Dubai — Notarization to Embassy, Handled Door to Door
How does power of attorney attestation work in Dubai?
Power of attorney attestation in Dubai has two stages: the POA is first made official by a notary — the grantor signs before a Dubai Courts notary public or a licensed private notary, in person or through the court's official electronic channel where the system permits it (a valid Emirates ID is required for the online route) — and the document is then attested so it can travel. A POA signed in the UAE for use abroad goes to MOFA first and then, where the destination country requires consular legalisation, to its embassy or consulate in the UAE, while a POA signed abroad for use in the UAE is notarised in its home country, legalised by the UAE embassy there, attested by MOFA in the UAE, and translated into Arabic by an MOJ-certified translator. Only a licensed notary can notarize: AttestPort prepares the document, arranges the translation and the notary application, and completes the MOFA and embassy legs with doorstep pickup and delivery across Dubai.
Important: In-Person Visit May Be Required
the grantor signs before the notary — in person, or through Dubai Courts' official electronic channel where the system permits it (a valid Emirates ID is required for the online route; passport-only applicants attend in person). No service company can appear or sign for you. AttestPort prepares the document, arranges the MOJ-certified translation and the notary application, and handles the MOFA and embassy attestation legs with doorstep pickup and delivery
About Power of Attorney Attestation
A power of attorney only works if two separate things are true: it was signed before the right official, and every authority that will rely on it can trust the seals it carries. In Dubai that means notarization — the grantor signing before a Dubai Courts notary public or a licensed private notary, with the court's electronic system deciding per transaction how the matter proceeds — without appearance, over the approved video channel, or in person — followed by attestation whenever the POA crosses a border in either direction. AttestPort is not a notary and never signs for you: we are the team around every other step — drafting support, MOJ-certified Arabic translation, the notary application, MOFA attestation, the destination-embassy leg, and doorstep pickup and delivery anywhere in Dubai.
What Power of Attorney Attestation Actually Involves
A power of attorney is a privately-signed instrument, and a private signature on its own has no official force. Two separate acts give it one. Notarization makes the document official: Dubai Courts runs a dedicated notary service for powers of attorney — the ratification of the parties' personal signatures — in which the notary verifies your identity, your legal capacity and your knowledge of what the document does before witnessing the signature. Attestation then makes the document travel: government authorities certify the seals and signatures it carries so that authorities in another country — or authorities here relying on a foreign POA — can trust it.
Which of the two you need depends on where the POA will be used. A POA signed and used only inside the UAE usually needs notarization alone. A POA signed in Dubai but exercised abroad needs notarization plus the attestation chain. And a POA signed abroad for use in the UAE needs its own home-country chain before any UAE authority will act on it. The sections below walk through each route — including the consular shortcuts many nationalities can use for documents going back home.
The Two Directions: Out of the UAE, and Into It
For a POA signed in the UAE and used abroad, the order is fixed: the notarized document goes to the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs first, and only then to the destination country's embassy or consulate in the UAE, where that country requires consular legalisation. This is not our preference — it is the missions' own rule: foreign embassies in the UAE state on their own pages that UAE documents must carry MOFA attestation before they will attest them.
The inbound direction mirrors it. A POA signed abroad for use in the UAE is notarised or authenticated in its country of origin, legalised by the UAE embassy or consulate there, attested by MOFA once it reaches the UAE, and accompanied by an MOJ-certified Arabic translation. An apostille never replaces any of those steps — the UAE is not a Hague Convention member, and it issues no apostilles of its own, so the ministry-plus-mission chain applies in both directions even when the other country runs on the Hague system. Dubai Courts applies the same rule from its side: the courts' own POA service card requires foreign-issued supporting documents to arrive already attested through this chain. See our embassy attestation guide for what each mission requires, and our certificate attestation guide for how the wider chain fits together end to end.
Who Can Notarize a POA in Dubai — and What We Do Around It
Dubai law keeps a closed list of who may notarize a power of attorney: the government notaries public at Dubai Courts, licensed private notaries on the official roll — whose instruments carry the same official standing — registered notaries of certain government entities, and the courts' own electronic notary system. Practising notarial work without a licence is a criminal offence under the UAE's federal notary law, which is why no attestation company, typing centre or law firm without a notary licence can ever notarize your POA.
AttestPort is not a notary and never performs the notarial act. Around that act, we do everything: draft-stage preparation, the MOJ-certified Arabic translation, the application through the official channel, the MOFA and destination-embassy legs afterwards, and doorstep pickup and delivery of your paperwork at every stage. How the notary step itself works — including private notaries and the electronic system — is covered in our notarization services in Dubai guide.
In Person or Online? The Rule Most Pages Get Wrong
Personal appearance before the notary is the legal default in the UAE, and the appearance — physical or virtual — is always between the signatory and the notary. But appearance does not automatically mean an office visit. Dubai Courts' Smart Electronic Notary is an official remote channel that expressly covers powers of attorney, and the system decides, per transaction, which of three paths applies: completed without appearance, completed with a virtual appearance over the courts' approved video channel, or referred for personal attendance. Nobody — including us — can promise you in advance that your POA will be handled remotely.
The eligibility rule matters more than any marketing claim: Dubai Courts' own power-of-attorney ratification service states that online attestation requires a valid Emirates ID, and that a person holding only a passport must appear in person before the Notary Public. Any provider advertising guaranteed fully-remote, passport-only POA notarization in Dubai is contradicting the courts' published rules.
And no service company can appear or sign for you. The only appearance exception the courts publish is for a legally incapacitated party, whose court-approved legal guardian may appear with the competent authority's approval. Everything else — preparation, translation, application, attestation, delivery — can be done for you; the signature cannot.
A POA for Use Back Home: the Consular Route
Many expats do not need the UAE chain at all. Many foreign missions in the UAE can execute or attest a power of attorney for their own citizens' use back home, under their own country's law — a separate route from UAE notarization, with one near-constant: missions typically require the person granting the POA to appear at the counter, so confirm the exact rule with your mission. Doorstep service still covers everything around that appearance — drafting, formatting, translations, and couriering the finished document home — but the signature happens at the mission.
The Philippine Consulate General in Dubai is a documented example: a special power of attorney is signed personally in front of consular officials, strictly by appointment, with the SPA drafted in advance — consular staff will not draft it for you — and the consulate's published procedure releases notarized documents after about four working days, with only collection delegable to a representative. This is the standard consular route for special-power-of-attorney requests covering passport, property and family matters in the Philippines.
POA From Dubai to India: Two Official Routes
India is the corridor we are asked about most, and it genuinely has two official routes. The first is consular execution: the Embassy of India's published attestation rules require the personal presence of the executant with the original passport, the POA is signed before the consular officer with a photograph affixed to its front page, and the Embassy states the service is rendered the same day (as published on its attestation-services page, July 2026). A POA executed this way is recognised under India's registration law as authenticated by an Indian consular officer, and is then stamped in India under the destination state's rules. Appointments run through the Indian missions' official portal — the missions warn that no third party may charge for or arrange appointments, and we never book them; what we handle is drafting, formatting and the courier logistics.
The second route is the UAE chain: notarize the POA at Dubai Courts, then MOFA, then Indian embassy attestation of the MOFA-attested document. It suits cases where the POA also has to work inside the UAE, or where consular execution is impractical. If the POA is purely for use in India, ask about the Indian Consulate in Dubai route first — it is usually the shorter path. Either way, the state-side stamping in India is governed by the destination state, so have the draft checked against local requirements before you sign.
Property POAs and the Dubai Land Department
Property is where POA wording gets policed hardest. The Dubai Land Department requires an official power of attorney whenever the owner is not present in person for a transfer, and its systems treat Dubai-notarized POAs as first-class records: a Dubai POA is cited by its notarization number, while POAs notarized in other emirates are attached as documents. Dubai Courts' ratification service reflects the same rigour from its side — a POA relating to property must be submitted with the title deed.
Two practical cautions. Law firms report DLD circular guidance tightening the treatment of foreign-issued POAs — freshness expectations and original-document requirements among them — so confirm the current DLD position before relying on an older foreign POA for a transaction. And a foreign POA only reaches DLD at all after completing the full inbound chain with a certified translation. When property is the purpose, tell us the transaction and we will confirm the exact document set before anything is signed.
Personal or Commercial? Where Corporate POAs Belong
This page covers the personal power of attorney — property, banking, family, court representation, vehicle sales, document collection. A POA issued by a company is a different animal: it is a privately-signed commercial document, executed under a board authority, notarised with proof of the signatory's corporate capacity, and attested through the commercial chain, which has its own requirements and its own fee classification — MOFA treats commercial documents differently from personal ones, at higher official fees.
If your POA is corporate — appointing a manager, authorising a branch signatory, empowering a representative for licensing — start from our commercial document attestation service, which covers board resolutions and the corporate paper that usually travels with a company POA.
General, Special, and the Uses That Actually Come Up
The UAE recognises the general power of attorney, which grants broad authority, and the special or specific power of attorney, limited to a defined transaction and usually expiring with it. In practice the requests cluster: property sales and purchases, court and litigation representation, bank-account management, vehicle sales, and document collection — including the special powers of attorney many expats grant so a relative can process passport or civil paperwork back home. The receiving authority shapes the wording: a bank, a court or a land registry each expect the powers spelled out their way, which is why drafting support matters as much as the stamp.
For the full legal guide — validity periods, revocation rights, multiple agents, and what makes a POA void — see our Power of Attorney requirements guide, which pairs with this page: the guide explains the law, this page gets the document made, attested and delivered.
The Arabic Language Rule
Notarial instruments in Dubai are written in Arabic, and the courts' POA service states the rule plainly: a document not drafted in Arabic needs a legal translation duly certified by the UAE Ministry of Justice. The compliant alternative is a properly-formatted bilingual document — Arabic and English in one continuous text, signed against both versions. Foreign POAs coming into the UAE need the same certified translation once their attestation chain is complete.
We arrange the MOJ-certified legal translation — or the bilingual format — before the notary application is filed, so the document is compliant the first time it is seen.
Revoking a Power of Attorney in Dubai
Cancelling a POA is not an email — it is a formal notary transaction. Dubai Courts handles it through the notary legal-notice service, whose published functions expressly include cancelling a power of attorney, and the identity rules match the granting side: the notice can be attested online with a valid Emirates ID, while a passport-only applicant appears in person. After revocation, notify everyone who relied on the original — the attorney, banks, and any authority holding a copy.
Property POAs have a second, little-known channel: the Dubai Land Department operates its own revocation-of-power-of-attorney service, which notarizes the revocation with the court as a third party and is published as a quick, minutes-long process. One caveat worth knowing before you grant: Abu Dhabi's Judicial Department states that a POA issued in the agent's favour, or involving a third party's interest, may not be unilaterally revocable — a reason to keep powers specific and time-limited from the start.
How Long It Takes — Honestly
Dubai Courts publishes no official turnaround for POA ratification or for revocation notices — any site quoting you a guaranteed official timeline for the notary step is inventing it. Operationally, straightforward ratifications are often completed the same day once the application is approved and the appearance is done. The MOFA leg is published: eligible UAE-issued digital documents attest in around two hours, but a paper POA is not one of them — it moves by approved courier in about one to three business days.
Mission legs vary, and we only quote figures the missions publish: the Embassy of India states its consular POA attestation is rendered the same day, and the Philippine consulate's procedure releases notarized documents after about four working days. Most other missions publish no turnaround, and we will not invent one — for your corridor, we quote the honest current picture before we start.
What It Costs — Structure, Not Invented Numbers
Every leg carries an official fee: Dubai Courts' notary fees are set per signature under the courts' published schedule, MOFA applies its own attestation fee tiers, each destination mission sets its own consular fees, and property steps carry Dubai Land Department service fees. What the total comes to depends on the POA type, the language work, and the corridor.
We quote the complete journey up front — notary, translation, MOFA and embassy, before anything is filed. Request an instant quote on WhatsApp and you will have it in minutes.
Doorstep Service, Honestly Scoped
Doorstep pickup and delivery is our core promise, and with a POA it needs honest scoping. What comes to your door: document pickup and return at every stage, drafting and formatting support, translation coordination, the MOFA and embassy legs run end to end, and updates on WhatsApp. What cannot come to your door: the signing itself. The appearance — at the notary, on the courts' video channel, or at your consulate's counter — is personal by law, and a notary house-call is a narrow legal exception for hardship cases, not a routine service anyone should promise you.
That split is exactly where a good facilitator earns its keep: you make one appearance; we make sure it is the only thing you have to do. WhatsApp us the POA's purpose and destination and we will map the route, the documents and the timeline before you commit to anything.

How Power of Attorney Attestation Works
Drafting & Translation
We help prepare the POA text with the exact powers required and arrange the MOJ-certified Arabic translation or a compliant bilingual version.
Notarization
The grantor signs before the notary. Applications go through the official channel, and the court system decides per transaction whether the matter completes without appearance, with a virtual appearance, or in person — a valid Emirates ID is required for the online route.
MOFA Attestation
For a POA that will be used abroad, MOFA attests the notarized document first — the ministry step always comes before the destination embassy. A paper POA moves through the approved-courier route in about one to three business days.
Destination Embassy Leg
Where the destination country requires consular legalisation, its embassy or consulate in the UAE attests after MOFA. We manage each mission's own requirements corridor by corridor.
Doorstep Delivery
Your notarized and attested POA is delivered back to your door, ready for whoever will act on it.
Processing Time
Dubai Courts publishes no official turnaround for POA notarization — straightforward ratifications are often completed the same day once the application is approved. The MOFA step takes about one to three business days for a paper POA by approved courier; a destination-embassy leg varies by mission, and consular-route timings differ by country.

Power of Attorney Attestation — Frequently Asked Questions
A POA is first notarized — the grantor signs before a Dubai Courts notary public or a licensed private notary, online with a valid Emirates ID where the system permits it, or in person — and is then attested for wherever it will be used: MOFA first and then, where the destination requires it, that country's embassy for a UAE POA going abroad, or the home-country chain, UAE embassy, MOFA and an MOJ-certified Arabic translation for a foreign POA used in the UAE. AttestPort handles everything around the signing itself, with doorstep pickup and delivery.
